Antonio Vivaldi’s famous 'Four Seasons' baroque violin concertos are interspersed with the jazzy, tango-inspired 'Four Seasons of Buenos Aires' by the 20th century Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. While Vivaldi’s version needs little introduction, Piazzolla’s four ‘concertos’ are not so well known. There are numerous cross-references to Vivaldi’s concertos, building in the joke of inverted seasons between the two hemispheres.
The violin soloist is Andrew Beer, concertmaster of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra since 2014, while Ashley Brown, a founder member of NZTrio, features as lead cellist and soloist. Both soloists have received many accolades for their performances throughout New Zealand and overseas.
The chamber orchestra is made up of 14 string players from Bay of Plenty Symphonia with guest harpsichordist Chalium Poppy.
