Waka hourua: Double Hulled Canoe

Thursday 16 July

Thu 16 July, 10:00-12:00

139 Greerton Road, Gate Pa, Tauranga

Build a double hulled waka with a modern twist! Learn a little about the traditional Maori navigation process! Maori navigators used ‘Te kapehu whetu (star compass) - which divides the 360 degrees around a canoe in the open ocean into different whare (houses) – to keep their waka on course. Then modernise your waka with a motor! Did you know that many of the current waka now have motors on them to offer more control in and around the harbour?

Strictly ages 9-14 years old.

Due to high demand, if you are unable to attend, please cancel your ticket to free it up for another person.
