“For the past two years, I have been on a journey, discovering my birth family, place of origin and cultural heritage, and this experience has given me the freedom to embrace my true self. We all have the desire to be known and to find where we belong. My journey in finding my way home to New Zealand is not just a tale about discovering family and place of origin, but it is about the discovery of self. When I found my way home and my birth family, it opened up a new world of possibilities. I understood more of who I am and this clearer identity has given me such a greater sense of self-worth. I am a child of two worlds, both: Pakeha & Maori, adopted family and birth family. Learning from both worlds, I feel more grounded. Understanding my true self has settled my heart and made me a stronger person. My paintings are about identity and the beauty I have found in my cultural heritage and the landscape of Aotearoa. They radiate with the power of really knowing one’s self. It has taken all my life to arrive at this place and in doing so, has made me a stronger person and better artist. I create beautiful original paintings, moments in time that capture the essence of truth. The truth that resonates life, releasing healing to the soul and restoring the spirit through colour and beauty. I have been painting and exhibiting for over twenty five years, mainly in Australia. I hope you enjoy this exhibition and find inspiration through my paintings.”
