Immerse yourself in local Māori culture! Learn and observe intrinsic Māori practices in traditional preservation, including workshops on how to preserve artefacts, whariki and tukutuku in marae, old photo portraits and more. Journey back with us as we visually retell the story of Te Heke o Te Rangihouhiri, a historic tale on how Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi settled in Tauranga.

Mataraunui Tohu o te Kura, Remnants of a Treasured Past, is a three-day exhibition open to all ages, with informative workshops supported by keynote speakers and experts in repatriation and preservation. Whether you would like to observe or gain knowledge in traditional and contemporary preservation practices or you have a passion to learn more of our local Ngāi Te Rangi Iwi history – nau mai haere mai!

Limited spaces available for preservation workshops – more information to come soon.

Keep an eye out on our Ngāi Te Rangi Facebook page!
