Ensuring your safety over summer is Tauranga City Council’s main priority. Remember, there will not be a public organised event at the Mount Main Beach this year. Welcome 2018 with family-friendly events and fireworks. Tauranga’s residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the start of the New Year at Council’s community celebrations in the city centre and in Papamoa and the city's youth can welcome the new year at the Silent Disco - strictly for attendees of 14 to 17 years of age.
Tauranga will welcome the new year with fireworks and a special kid's countdown at 9.30pm for little ones who can't make it to midnight. New Year’s Eve fireworks will also be seen at midnight from across the city and residents and visitors are invited to watch them from their deck or backyard, ideally from a slightly elevated point.
The first fireworks to light up the sky will be at the family-friendly time of 9.30pm at the Tauranga waterfront and at Gordon Spratt Reserve.
There will be no fireworks display at Mount Maunganui.
