Tauranga City Council is searching for Tauranga’s next superstar street artist through the Paradox: Youth Street Art Competition run in conjunction with Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and OfficeMax.
The youth-focused street art competition highlights the creativity and vision of young local artists through the medium of urban street art.
As part of the Festival, Powerco, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and OfficeMax are excited to bring the Paradox: Youth Street Art Competition, a youth-focused street art competition intended to highlight the creativity and vision of young local artists through the medium of urban street art.
The competition is open to young people aged 13 – 24 years from schools, tertiary education providers and community groups. There are three categories to enter: 13 – 15 years, 16 – 18 years and 19 – 24 years. Artists are free to paint with and on any material they choose, as long as the surface is no larger than A1 (594 x 841 mm) and the piece can be easily moved.
As part of the competition five pieces from each category will be selected to be exhibited for the public to enjoy from 15 May to 4 June 2017 in the newly opened M Block at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology. Opening night will include a live DJ, food and introductions to the pieces from the artists.
Paradox: Youth Street Art Exhibition
The exhibition will conclude with a massive sponsors’ auction event on 10 June 2017 at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology’s Bongard Centre, Cameron Road. Live music, great food and hospitality will set the stage for the live auction, which will see money raised go back to our young creatives.
